Geometry only — texture coordinates,
materials and vertex colours are not carried through. Decimating a
UV-mapped mesh correctly is a much harder problem, and mangling your
UVs quietly would be worse than leaving them alone.

What actually shrinks WebM files
VP9 is well supported everywhere that matters and encodes considerably faster than AV1.
AV1 is smaller again at the same quality, but slow; the SVT-AV1 preset dial trades encoding time against file size.
