Geometry only — texture coordinates,
materials and vertex colours are not carried through. Decimating a
UV-mapped mesh correctly is a much harder problem, and mangling your
UVs quietly would be worse than leaving them alone.

What actually shrinks WAV files
FLAC keeps every sample exactly and typically halves the size; it is the right choice for archiving.
Opus or AAC are the right choice for listening, and are dramatically smaller.
A mono downmix halves a stereo recording again, which is usually correct for voice memos and interviews.
